What Is a Wi-Fi QR Code?

A Wi-Fi QR code encodes your network credentials (SSID, password, and security type) in a format phones can read directly. When a guest scans it, iOS and Android both pop up a "Join network?" prompt — one tap and they're connected.

The credentials are embedded in the QR code itself using the WIFI: URI scheme, so it works 100% offline. No internet connection, no server, no data stored anywhere.

What You Need Before You Start

• Your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) — exactly as it appears on devices
• Your Wi-Fi password
• The security type — WPA/WPA2 (almost all modern routers), WEP (old), or None (open networks)

Step 1 — Open the Wi-Fi QR Generator

Step 2 — Enter Your Network Details

1. Network Name (SSID) — type your exact Wi-Fi name. It's case-sensitive: CafeGuest and cafeguest are different networks.
2. Password — type your Wi-Fi password. The field is masked by default.
3. Security — select WPA/WPA2 for any modern router. Only choose WEP or None if you know your network uses them.

Does a Wi-Fi QR Code Expire?

No — as long as your network name and password don't change, the QR code works indefinitely. If you change your password, just regenerate the QR code (it takes 30 seconds) and reprint it.

Can Guests See My Password?

The password is encoded inside the QR code data, so technically someone could decode it with a QR reader app. This is the same as writing your password on a card — which most businesses already do. For a guest network, this is perfectly acceptable.

If security is a concern, use a dedicated guest SSID with its own password, separate from your main network.

Yes, with no app required:
